Over either two days (individuals or two person teams) or the one-day event (individuals only), competitors cycle 140kms (3 stages of 55km, 15km and 70km), run 36km (including a 33km mountain stage that crosses the Southern Alps) and kayak 67kms of the grade two Waimakariri River through the Grand Canyon of New Zealand, the Waimakariri Gorge. |

| Distance\ Course:: The current 100-mile course has evolved through a history of tradition, opportunism, stubbornness, and confusion. The course map depicts the snaky "lollipop" that is the Susitna 100 course. The rivers and lakes that are named in this description can be oriented to the U.S. Geological Survey's Tyonek Quadrangle, should the truly curious want a clearer picture of what the course looks like in, say, mid-July. In February, however, this country is reduced to two colors, white and green, and is typically framed by a blue sky. . |

Distances:: The Citizen Course follows Airport Road 6.3 miles from the Breckenridge Recreation Center to SCR 3 to the Bergenhof Restaurant at the Peak 8 base area. The course ascends 2,141' up Claimjumper to the base of the T-bar, and then reverses back down Claimjumper to finish skier's left above the Bergenhof. Participants 16 and under will only be allowed on the Citizen Course.
The Challenge Short Course for Teams will follow the Citizen Course.
The Expert Course follows Airport Road 6.3 miles from the Breckenridge Recreation Center to SCR 3 to the Bergenhof Restaurant at the Peak 8 base area. The course ascends 2,998' up Claimjumper to the base of the T-bar, up the T-bar path, through the gate, and up the bootpack to the top of Peak 8. The course descends Whale's Tail to Vertigo; both are double black diamond, ungroomed natural alpine terrain. From Vertigo, the course descends Claimjumper to finish skier's left above the Bergenhof.

Distances:: The 25-mile race will be a single loop connecting the desert trails of Kokopelli’s and adjacent trails. The course rolls between elevations of 4,500 and 5,400 feet with over 4,000 feet of climbing per loop. We will have five aid stations located throughout the course, at approximately five-mile intervals. The 50-mile course will repeat the 25-mile course in the opposite direction, and runners will have a total of 10 aid stations. Aid Stations will be stocked with Hammer Gel, potato chips, chocolate, apples, bananas, cola, ice water and sports drink. Additional food will be available at the turnaround/finish line (if racers need additional food on the course, they are advised to carry it with them). In addition, a certified Emergency Medical Technician will be in attendance.
Runners registered for the 50-mile race must complete the first 25-mile loop in six and a half hours in order to continue the second half of the race. If a 50-miler drops out at the 25 mile turnaround they will receive an official 25 mile time. |

At this point, the course makes a U-turn onto the Mickelson Trail. The next 11.6 miles are an uphill grade of no more than 3%, to the highest point on the course… 6200’. From there to mile 19.4 is mostly downhill, again at no more than 3%. From 19.4 to 20, there is a serious downhill... it's runable, but you have to be careful not to become a "runaway." From 20, to the end of the trail at 24.8 miles the course is either downhill or flat. From 24.8 to the finish is on pavement. |

After recovering from the seemingly endless vertical treadmill, you’ll find yourself at the top of a false summit. A greeting by the resident rattlesnake here is common, but your attention will quickly shift to negotiating “the crags” that sport a difficulty rating of 5.4 (Yosemite Decimal System) before reaching the actual summit of Black Mountain. |

Scheduled around the full moon in August, the third annual running of the Wild West Relay will be Friday, August 11th - Saturday, August 12th, 2006. The relay begins by the foothills of the Rocky Mountains in Fort Collins, Colorado, and finishes in the beautiful ski and summer resort town of Steamboat Springs. Much of this very scenic and remote course runs through National Forests or along dirt roads. | Where:: Idaho Springs, CO to Glenwood Springs, CO |
| Distance:: The Colorado Outward Bound Relay, a 24-hour, 170-mile team relay race, is the only adventure of its kind in Colorado. The course takes athletes of all abilities, across three mountain passes in the beautiful Rocky Mountains, from Idaho Springs to Glenwood Springs, CO. Runners, on teams of 10, each run three segments of the race, with a leg averaging in distance of five miles. An option for elite runners is to create an Ultra team of five runners. Ultra runners are responsible for one leg of the race that averages about 35 miles in length. This event attracts people from all over the nation and is designed for both casual and competitive runners. |

| Distance:: The Imogene Pass Run (IPR) is a 17.1 mile point-to-point mountain race within the western San Juan mountains of Colorado, run along a route which connects the towns of Ouray (7810 ft.) and Telluride (8820 ft.) by way of 13,120 foot Imogene Pass. Note: 2006 race registration begins June 1st. |

| Distance:: The Course is entirely within the Rio Grande National Forest at elevations of 9,000 feet and above, including a portion along one of the most beautiful sections of the Continental Divide Trail. | Distance:: 30 miles: The SALOMON Summit Adventure will include canoeing (on Lake Dillon), mountain biking, and trail running in that order. Transition Area will be the Frisco Nordic Center. Distance is approximately 30 miles (2-3+/- mile canoe, 20 +/- mile bike, 6 +/- mile run), which will take teams 3.5-6.5 hrs to complete. |

| Distance:: 30-35 miles. In VentureQuest 2005 teams navigated across a course consisting of 4 miles of canoeing, 11 miles of trekking, and 12 miles of mountain biking--similar format for 2006. Racers must find a series of checkpoints as they bike along the demanding semi-technical single-track of the Fountainhead Mountain Biking Trail system, navigate both on and off trail along the Bull Run-Occoquan trail system corridor, and paddle the slow moving waters of the Occoquan Reservoir. |
