January 3, 2009:: 20th Annual Turquoise Lake Snowshoe Race
Where:: Leadville, CO
Distance:: 20 miles consisting of a big loop on, above, and around Turquoise Lake. Over 2700' of climbing with a high point of 11,370'. The trails are usually semi-packed, and the views are great. This event is not for the meek or inexperienced. It can be one of the most difficult winter events known. Required gear: You must start the 20 miler with at least 20 oz. of fluid and 200 cal. of food!
 
January 10-11, 2009:: 24 Hours of Telemark
Where:: Cable, Wisconsin
Distance:: The 24 Hours of Telemark is a cross-country ski relay race with teams of one to six members competing against each other in different age divisions and categories. The team, or individual, in each category that completes the most laps in 24 hours is the winner.

January 31, 2009:: Pedal Power Winter Triathlon
Where:: Leadville, CO
Distance | Course:: The 2nd annual Winter Triathlon, organized by Vail's Pedal Power bike shop is a cornerstone of their popular Snowshoe Adventure Series. The race takes place on the fantastic trail system at the Tennessee Pass Nordic Center at Ski Cooper, located midway between Vail and Leadville. This race is not to be missed.

All participants will be chip-timed, with splits for all disciplines and transitions.

February 1, 2009:: 39th Annual Salomon “Frisco Gold Rush” Featuring the SALOMON Nordic races and TUBBS Snowshoe 7K. Colorado's oldest XC Ski & Snowshoe event

Distance:: 5K/10K Classic, 5K/10K Skate, 20K Skate, or 5K/10K Snowshoe
 
February 13-14, 2009:: Speight's Coast to Coast
Where:: Kumara Beach, New Zealand
Distance:: The Speight's Coast to Coast is the world’s premier multi-sport event. The Speight's Coast to Coast is the benchmark by which all other multi-sport events are judged, both here in New Zealand and overseas. The Speight's Coast to Coast traverses the South Island of New Zealand from Kumara Beach on the Tasman Sea to Sumner Beach on the Pacific Ocean. Over either two days (individuals or two person teams) or the one-day event (individuals only), competitors cycle 140kms (3 stages of 55km, 15km and 70km), run 36km (including a 33km mountain stage that crosses the Southern Alps) and kayak 67kms of the grade two Waimakariri River through the Grand Canyon of New Zealand, the Waimakariri Gorge.
 
February 14, 2009:: The 2009 Mt Taylor Winter Quadrathlon
Where:: Grants, NM
Distance:: The Quad is a 42 mile race to the top (and back) of the highest peak in Northwest New Mexico. Bike: 26 miles, Run:10 miles, Nordic Ski: 5 miles and snowshoe: 2 miles. The Quad is a 42 mile race to the top of the highest peak in Northwest New Mexico. Mt. Taylor is 11,301 ft. high. The race consists of 4 parts; road bikes, running, cross county skiing, and snow shoeing.
 
February 14, 2009: Susitna 100
Where:: Sign-in Aurora Dog Mushers building 2 hours from Anchorage, Alaska
Distance\ Course:: The current 100-mile course has evolved through a history of tradition, opportunism, stubbornness, and confusion. The course map depicts the snaky "lollipop" that is the Susitna 100 course. The rivers and lakes that are named in this description can be oriented to the U.S. Geological Survey's Tyonek Quadrangle, should the truly curious want a clearer picture of what the course looks like in, say, mid-July. In February, however, this country is reduced to two colors, white and green, and is typically framed by a blue sky. .
 
February 22, 2009:: Leadville Loppet
Where:: Leadville, CO. The 44 km will start promptly at 10:00 am and the 22 km at 10:30 am on Saturday, 23 February 2009, on the Colorado Mountain College’s (CMC) Timberline Campus events field located south of the dormitories and Student Center
Distance\ Course:: Both distances (22 km and 44 km) will take place on the rolling forested terrain at Colorado Mountain College (CMC). Then onto the historic railroad grades of the Mineral Belt Trail around town - between 10,000’ & 10,600’. Both 22 & 44 km races will finish at CMC.

March 2, 2009:: Vasaloppet
Where:: Sälen to Mora, Sweden
Distance:: 90km: Vasaloppet can be placed with many other customary male virility symbols - gladiatorial combat, elk hunting, ironman, and so on - but, of course, there are many women on the course, and their numbers are increasing every year. Women who press themselves to the limit in their quest for a good result and time over the 90km from Sälen to Mora.
 
March 09, 2009:: Winter Blue Adventure Race
Where:: Northstar-at-Tahoe, Lake Tahoe, CA
Distance:: The Tahoe Winter Blue will start and finish on one of the mountains at Northstar. At the sound of the starting gun competitors will race up, down, over and through the snow covered terrain. Locating Control Points using trail running shoes, snowshoes, free heal skis, etc. The course has been designed to be challenging and achievable to the new adventure racer and a solid race for those more experienced.
 
March 15, 2009:: America's Uphill Race
Where:: Aspen, CO
Distance:: 3,200 vertical feet: The America's Uphill begins at the base of Little Nell and ascends 3,267 feet up the Aspen Mountain ski area finishing at the Sundeck Restaurant at an elevation of 11,212 feet. 
 
March 15, 2009:: A Run Through Time
Where:: Riverside Park in downtown Salida, CO
Distance:: Marathon route follows CO RD 175 (Ute Trail) north to the ghost town of Turret, CO. turn around and return via CO Rd 173 back to Salida. ½ Marathon up and back on CO RD 175 (Ute Trail). Most of routes on dirt/gravel roads with 1.5/3 miles pavement (marathon/half). Total climb 3800’+ marathon. 2000’+ half marathon. Fun run has 185’ climb and does the fi rst mile + with the other routes before looping back to start.
 
March 22-23, 2009:: Equinox Ski Challenge
Where:: Rendezvous Ski Trails, West Yellowstone, MT
Distance:: Race Type: 6, 12, or 24 Hour cross country ski race for relay teams or solo entrants. There will be a 6 Hour and 12 Hour divisions in conjunction with the headlining 24 Hour race.  All categories are open to both relay teams and soloists.  This year the 9 kilometer course will be lit by a nearly full moon if the skies are clear, (headlamps still recommended)!  Last year we saw multiple 24 Hour soloists exceed 300km and a team at just under 400km on the challenging loops.  To avoid skiing on refrozen chop, we have two courses set up and will switch to the fresh course about 12 hours into the race.

March 22-27, 2009:: Rock and Ice Ultra
Where:: Yellowknife, Northwest Territories, Canada
Distance:: Race Type: Trail Running/Walking, X-Country Skiing, and Snow Shoeing. The Rock and Ice Ultra is an annual winter ultra event held in Yellowknife, Northwest Territories, Canada. The event consists of the Cold Foot Classic-50 Miler (continuous), the K-Rock-100 Miler (continuous) and the Diamond-210 Miler (7 stages). The course terrain is well marked, frozen lake chains connected by hard packed trails. Navigational skills are a must considering the extreme environment and the potential for white-outs. Disciplines include foot and snowshoe or skiing. All racers must be self sufficient and carry all required food, gear and sleep systems with them.

March 28-29, 2009:: 11th Annual Elk Mountains Grand Traverse
Where:: Crested Butte to Aspen
Distance:: 38 miles long, with over 6,000 vertical feet of elevation gain.
 
March 28-7 April, 2009:: MARATHON DES SABLES
Where:: Ouarzazate, Morocco
Distance:: A 145 mile, seven-day stage race. Runners are typically given 40 hours to complete the 50 mile stage, with most finishing the stage in one day.

April 1-8 2009:: Arctic Circle Race
Where:: Sisimiut, Greenland
Distance:: The race takes place through the magnificent countryside around Sisimiut on Greenland's west coast approx. 65 km north of the Arctic Circle. The total race distance is 160 km. The three-day race takes competitors through the magnificent, varied and sometimes harsh Greenlandic terrain. If you choose to take part in Arctic Circle Race 2007, it is essential that you are in good physical condition, with a stable mentality and a desire for adventure. 
 
April 2009: 31th Annual Pole, Pedal, Paddle
Where:: Jackson Hole Mountain Resort in Teton Village, WY
Distance:: The Pole, Pedal, Paddle begins at the resort with the 4,139 vertical foot super giant slalom for racing classes and the 3,500 giant slalom for all other classes. The 10-kilometer cross country leg of the relay will take place over rolling terrain at the base of the resort, followed by a 19.8 mile bicycle course that goes through Teton Village to the South Park Bridge. The boating leg will feature nine miles of Class 1 & 2 grade waters on the Snake River from South Park Bridge to Snake River Canyon.
 
April 5, 2009:: AdventureXstream - Moab, Utah Adventure Race
Where:: Moab, UT
Distance:: River Paddle - Flat Water (~7-12 miles), MTB: 35-45, trail run: 6-8
 
April 11-13, 2009:: 2009 Classic Southern Traverse
Where:: Queenstown Area, New Zealand
Distance\ Disiplines:: Trail Running/Walking, Mountain Trek/Run, River Kayak. The race begins on April 11 at 9.00am in Hanmer with an estimated eight hours of racing for the fastest teams and 12 hours for the slowest. There is a midnight start on the second day with the fastest teams expected to take 15 hours and the slowest 24 hours. The third day is scheduled to begin at 6.00am and will focus on Rogaine-style orienteering with all teams taking six hours to complete the course. 
 
April 12, 2009::  ALCOA’S Ridge to River Relay
Where:: Wenatchee, Washington
Distance:: Nordic Ski - 3 miles, top of Mission Ridge, Alpine Ski/Snowboard - 2 miles, top of Mission Ridge to Lodge, Run - 4.5 miles, Mission Ridge Lodge to Squilchuck State Park, Bike - 19 miles, Squilchuck State Park to Wenatchee River Park, Canoe/Kayak - 9 miles, Wenatchee River Park to Riverfront Park, and Portage/Sprint to finish - .5 mile, in Riverfront Park
 
April 19, 2009:: 2009 Imperial Challenge
Where:: Breckenridge, CO
Distances:: The Citizen Course follows Airport Road 6.3 miles from the Breckenridge Recreation Center to SCR 3 to the Bergenhof Restaurant at the Peak 8 base area. The course ascends 2,141' up Claimjumper to the base of the T-bar, and then reverses back down Claimjumper to finish skier's left above the Bergenhof. Participants 16 and under will only be allowed on the Citizen Course.

The Challenge Short Course for Teams will follow the Citizen Course.

The Expert Course follows Airport Road 6.3 miles from the Breckenridge Recreation Center to SCR 3 to the Bergenhof Restaurant at the Peak 8 base area. The course ascends 2,998' up Claimjumper to the base of the T-bar, up the T-bar path, through the gate, and up the bootpack to the top of Peak 8. The course descends Whale's Tail to Vertigo; both are double black diamond, ungroomed natural alpine terrain. From Vertigo, the course descends Claimjumper to finish skier's left above the Bergenhof.
 
April 18-19, 2009:: 24 Hours of Freedom
Where:: Flagstaff, AZ to Phoenix, AZ
Distances:: The 24 Hours of Freedom is an amazing team relay race for teams of 6-14 people running and hand-cycling from Flagstaff to Phoenix, Arizona. The race course follows parts of the Arizona Trail, single track, dirt roads, back roads, and frontage roads over 200+ miles of awesome Arizona terrain. Teams compete in 4 categories taking from 24 to 36 hours to complete the course. The race is scheduled to begin April 18, 2009 in Flagstaff and finish the next day east of Phoenix. A celebration for the teams will be held at the finish line where food, music and sponsors and fans will gather to congratulate the teams.
 
April 19-20, 2009::  Spring Desert Ultra Trail Running Festival
Where:: Fruita, CO
Distances:: The 25-mile race will be a single loop connecting the desert trails of Kokopelli’s and adjacent trails. The course rolls between elevations of 4,500 and 5,400 feet with over 4,000 feet of climbing per loop. We will have five aid stations located throughout the course, at approximately five-mile intervals. The 50-mile course will repeat the 25-mile course in the opposite direction, and runners will have a total of 10 aid stations. Aid Stations will be stocked with Hammer Gel, potato chips, chocolate, apples, bananas, cola, ice water and sports drink. Additional food will be available at the turnaround/finish line (if racers need additional food on the course, they are advised to carry it with them). In addition, a certified Emergency Medical Technician will be in attendance.

Runners registered for the 50-mile race must complete the first 25-mile loop in six and a half hours in order to continue the second half of the race. If a 50-miler drops out at the 25 mile turnaround they will receive an official 25 mile time.
 
April 24-27, 2009:: Odyssey Endorphin Fix 3 Day AR Adventure Race
Where:: New River Gorge & South Central West Virginia 17th Edition
Distances:: Teams will have the opportunity to meet with their support crew at different times and locations throughout this demanding 200+ mile course. The rugged , but scenic terrain of West Virginia and the different disciplines of mt. biking and trekking on fire roads and single track, whitewater rafting and swimming in class II and III rapids , rappelling and ascending towering rock walls , and orienteering though lush forest vegetation will set the stage for an epic event which Odyssey Adventure Racing is known to provide for the wanting adventure athlete.

Where:: Fruita, CO

April 27, 2009:: Orange County Adventure Race
Where:: Directions from South Orange County : Take 55 frwy North exit Chapman Avenue (East) / Just 8-10 miles and you are there. Directions from North Orange County : Take 91 east to 55 frwy South exit Chapman Avenue (East) / Just 8-10 miles and you are there. Directions from Greater Los Angeles County : Take 5 frwy South to 91 east to 55 frwy South exit Chapman Avenue (East) / From here you are just 8-10 miles from the lake.
Distances:: 10 miles (2-4 hours) of fun and excitement.  You'll travel on foot, by bike, and by raft all over the Irvine Lake area passing through multiple mystery challenges and obstacles along the way.  You'll laugh, you'll be challenged, and you'll get dirty doing it.

Where:: Bribie Island, Australia
Distances and Disciplines:: Competitors will race through Bribie Is, Pumistone Passage & the Glass House Mtn Forests as individuals or in teams. The course will include disciplines including MTB, Running, Kayak, and Swimming. Teams: Competitors may enter as individuals or as a relay team of 2, 4 or 5+. The course will be broken into 10 stages and see relay teams and individuals complete up to 40km of mountain biking, 22km of running, 25km of paddling and 1.6 km of swimming.

May 3, 2009:: Collegiate Peaks Trail Run 25 and 50 Mile trail run
Where:: Buena Vista, CO
Distance:: 25 Mile and 50 mile trail runs.  Beginning and ending near the Arkansas River, in Buena Vista, the course primarily follows single track trails along part of the old, historic Midland Railroad as well as through other scenic areas north and east of town. Encompassing great scenery and spectacular views, much of the course runs through lands managed by the National Forest and/or Bureau of Land Management
 
May 10, 2009:: Adventure Xstream Buena Vista - Sprint & 12 Hour

Memorial Day, 2009:: BolderBOULDER road race
Where:: Boulder, CO
Distance:: 10 KM. Start at the First National Bank of Colorado, 30th and the Diagonal in Boulder. The BolderBOULDER WAVE START gives you a better opportunity to run your own pace with other participants of similar ability. Entrants will be seeded by predicted finish times within the 79 waves.
 
May 29, 2009:: Tenzing - Hillary Everest Marathon 2007: Highest Marathon in the World. Group trek to start: May 14 - June 2, 2007
Event date: May 29, 2007
Where:: Kathmandu, Nepal
Distance\ Details:: This includes hotel in Kathmandu all equipment for trekking to Everest base camp. The runners will be sleeping in tents with meals cooked by our staff. Everything is included except international airfare and personal items.
Event starts with two nights at Everest base camp, the starting line is at the Khumbu ice fall, the route to the top of the highest peak in the world Mount Everest. The race starts at the Khumbu ice fall (18,000 ft) and finishes at the Namche Bazaar (11,000 ft)

May 30-31, 2009:: 3rd Annual Go Fast 24 Hours of E-Rock
Where:: Greenland Open Space, CO, just down the road from the Palmer Divide (14 miles south of Castle Rock on I-25-exit 167)
Distance:: The Go Fast 24 Hours of E-Rock is Colorado’s only Front Range 24 Hour Mountain Bike Solo & Team Relay Race. Approximately 8.25-mile loop with stunning views of Pikes Peak and the Rampart Range. Beginning elevation is 6908 with a high point of 7450.

June 1, 2009:: 31th Annual Uphill FootRace (Whiteface Mountain)
Where:: Start line at junction of Routes 86 and 431 in Wilmington
Distance::  8 miles up the scenic Whiteface Mountain Veterans Memorial Highway, with an average 8% grade.  New York's Adirondack Park. Climb 3,500 feet up scenic Whiteface Mountain Veteran's Memorial Highway to the top of New York's 5th highest peak for a 360 degree panoramic view of the Adirondacks, New England and Montreal. Course length is 7.94687 miles and is USATF certified.
 
June 1-8, 2009:: Garmin TransPortugal Mountain Bike Race
Where:: Portugal
Distance:: This 8 day event, covering a course of 1000km, with an average stage length of 125km crosses Portugal from North to South.
 
June 5-8, 2009:: Teva Mountain Games Spring Run Off USA 10K Trail Running Championship
Where:: Vail, CO
Distance:: 10KM Trail run.  3000 feet elevation change. Challenge the Vail Valley's best trail runners along with top professionals at almost 9,000 feet as you compete for a $5,000 cash purse.
 
June 8, 2009::  Deadwood Mickelson Trail Marathon "26.2 Miles of Black Hills Beauty!"
Where:: Deadwood, SD
Distance:: 26.2 mile trail run.  The Deadwood Mickelson Trail Marathon is a point to point course, beginning in the hamlet of Rochford, proceeding 1.1 miles past the Little Brown Church in the Vale; the University of Rochford; the sMall of America, past the Fire Station 2/10 of a mile. At this point, the course makes a U-turn onto the Mickelson Trail. The next 11.6 miles are an uphill grade of no more than 3%, to the highest point on the course… 6200’. From there to mile 19.4 is mostly downhill, again at no more than 3%. From 19.4 to 20, there is a serious downhill... it's runable, but you have to be careful not to become a "runaway." From 20, to the end of the trail at 24.8 miles the course is either downhill or flat. From 24.8 to the finish is on pavement.

Where:: Manitou Springs, Colorado
Distance::  The Garden of the Gods Ten Mile Run® (AKA the Garden 10 Mile) was first held in 1977. June 8, 2009 is the 32nd running of this spectacular event.
 
June 8, 2009:: CAPTAIN THURMOND's TRIATHLON 2007
Where:: Oak Hill, WV
Distance:: Bike: This off road challenge begins with a Lemans start at the historic Thurmond Train Depot in the New River Gorge to Cunard. Approx 12 miles.
Watercraft: Cunard to Fayette Station on the New River. Class III to IV rapids. Approx. 8 miles. Run: From Fayette Station a trail run up the gorge, behind the town park then into the town of Fayetteville. Approx 7 miles.
 
June 14, 2009:: AdventureXstream Adventure Race
Where:: Durango, CO
Distance:: 60 miles: 14 miles Kayak, 35 miles MTB, ~9 miles trail run. Both the 12 hour and 24 hour courses offer up world class single track mountain biking. Set in the beautiful back country of the San Juan Mountains, teams will test their mettle in the second stop in the AdventureXstream Series. The 24 hour course will have a Rogaine style trek section, showcasing your teams navigation skills and strategy.
 
June 20, 2009:: Bighorn Trail 100 Mile Run 
Where:: Sheridan, MO
Distance:: The Bighorn Trail 100 Mile Run is an arduous trail run that will take place in the Little Bighorn – Tongue River areas of the Bighorn National Forest. Starting time for the event will be 11 AM, Friday June 15, 2007, with a 34 hour (average pace of 2.94 mph) time limit to finish the event. The course is an out-and-back consisting of 76 miles of single track trail, 16 miles of rugged double track jeep trail, and 8 miles of gravel road with approximately 17,500 feet of climb and 18,000 feet of descent.
 
June 21, 2009:: 5th Annual Buffalo Creek Triathlon, A Nissan XTERRA Point Series Race
Where:: Buffalo Creek, CO. At Wellington Lake, 10 miles S.E. of Bailey, Colorado
Distance:: 1 mile swim; 20 mile mountain bike; 5 mile trail run
 
June 21, 2009:: 13th Annual Running of the San Juan Solstice 50 Mile Trail Run
Where:: Lake City, CO
Distance:: 50 miles trail run. The San Juan Solstice 50 mile endurance run is a scenic and very difficult loop through the high San Juans. The run consists of five main sections: the climb up Alpine Gulch and down William's Creek, the climb up to the old mining town of Carson, a long section along the Continental Divide, a descent to Slumgullion Pass, and a final hump up and over the Vicker's Ranch plateau. The San Juan Solstice 50 is for the experienced trail runner only.
 
June 21, 2009:: Wahsatch Steeplechase
Where:: Memory Grove Park, Salt Lake City, Utah
Distance:: The Wahsatch Steeplechase is equivalent to a marathon, but run on a mountain trail with a vertical gain and loss of approximately 9000 feet in 17.5 miles. The course favors the up- hill runner right from the start, gaining 4500 vertical feet in the first 6 miles. After recovering from the seemingly endless vertical treadmill, you’ll find yourself at the top of a false summit. A greeting by the resident rattlesnake here is common, but your attention will quickly shift to negotiating “the crags” that sport a difficulty rating of 5.4 (Yosemite Decimal System) before reaching the actual summit of Black Mountain.
 
June 28, 2009:: The Western States Endurance Run
Where:: Squaw Valley, California
Distance:: The Run is conducted along the Western States Trail starting at Squaw Valley, California, and ending in Auburn, California, a total of 100 miles. The trail ascends from the Squaw Valley floor (elevation 6,200 feet) to Emigrant Pass (elevation 8,750 feet), a climb of 2,550 vertical feet in the first 4½ miles. From the pass, following the original trails used by the gold and silver miners of the 1850’s, runners travel west, climbing another 15,540 feet and descending 22,970 feet before reaching Auburn.

Where:: Prince Rupert, British Columbia
Distance:: Raid the North Extreme is the pinnacle of adventure racing in Canada. This six-day, non-stop challenge is designed to give teams a true expedition-style race experience. The course will be technical, with very challenging navigation, long stretches of remote wilderness and plenty of decision-making..
Course: Each racecourse is designed and tested by internationally experienced adventure racers, with the goal of testing competitors' mental and physical limits. Teams will never cross the same terrain twice and will be challenged only by what the rugged Canadian wilderness has to offer. Much of the course travels through untracked terrain and there is often more than one route possible.
June 21-July 2, 2009:  Primal Quest Adventure Race. by Primal Quest Team: Since the conclusion of Primal Quest Utah, we have been diligently trying to make arrangements to enable the race to take place in 2007 and beyond. As you know, PQ is a complex undertaking that requires substantial planning, financing and partnerships in order to maintain the high quality standard that PQ is known for. We realize placing the event on hold affects the racing community to a great degree, but please know we are continuing to explore every option in staging the expedition in the future and appreciate all the input we've received.
Where:: Held in a new international location each year adventurers from all over the world run, bike, paddle and traverse the rugged terrain in the quest to reach the finish line.
Distance:: Covering over 800km and lasting up to 10 days, co-ed teams of four travel non-stop using only a map and compass to navigate this grueling and unforgiving course..

Where:: Breckenridge, CO
Distance and course:: Each 25 mile lap has 5400' of climbing. Fortunately for you a bunch of that is on the climb out of Breckenridge on the old narrow gauge Railroad grade. The race starts the 4th of July Parade in a neutral start format by start wave. From there the odyssey sends you into the Backcountry.

Distance:: 26.2 Mile trail run. Start in the town of Leadville, CO elevation 10,200 and summiting notorious 13,188 ft. Mosquito Pass. Seven well-supplied aid stations.
 
July 11-13, 2009:: Hardrock Hundred Mile Endurance Run
Where:: Silverton, CO
Distance:: 101.3 mile trail run. The Hardrock 100 course will be run clockwise - a big loop through the San Juan Mountains of beautiful southwest Colorado: Silverton - Ophir - Telluride - Ouray - Sherman (Lake City) - Silverton, 100 miles, 33,000' total elevation gain, 11,186' average elevation, low point 7,680' at Ouray, high point 14,048' at Handies Peak.
 
July, 2009:: 12th Annual Pedro's Mountain Bike Festival 
Where:: Lanesboro, MA
Comments::  A different venue, date on the calendar, and larger expo to name a few. But for the most part, the spirit of the Festival still remains as originally intended. We still enjoy riding our bikes on awesome trails, playing silly games, listening to music, camping out, and hanging with our friends, of which we now have many more. Many of our friends who were at the early Festivals have families that didn't exist back then, and now attend the event all together.
 
July 19-20, 2009:: Vermont 100 Mile Endurance Run
Where:: Silver Hill Meadow, VT
Distance::  100 mile trail run.  The Vermont 100 Mile Endurance Run is one of the original 100 mile runs in the USA. Each year, over 200 runners attempt to finish this hilly race over beautiful Vermont back roads and trails under the 30 hour cutoff point, and a well-trained few finish in under 24 hours. The course record is just under 15 hours.

Distance:: 50 mile mountain bike race. The course is 50 miles out and back within the high altitude environment of Leadville's historic east-side mining district. The route is extreme in true Leadville fashion.

Distance:: 5th annual Golden Gate Canyon Trail Run, Gilpin County, 15 mi west of Golden, 10 mi south of Nederland. 12.7mi, 2,500' of climbing, elevation range 8,400'-9,500'. Run through pine and aspen forests and alpine meadows, with spectacular views of the continental divide.

July 14-16, 2009:: 31th Kiehl's Badwater Ultramarathon
Where:: The start line is at Badwater, Death Valley, which marks the lowest elevation in the Western Hemisphere at 280’ (85m) below sea level. The race finishes at the Mt. Whitney Portals at 8360' (2533m). The Badwater course covers three mountain ranges for a total of 13,000’ (3962m) of cumulative vertical ascent and 4,700’ (1433m) of cumulative descent. The Portals are the trailhead to the Mt. Whitney summit, the highest point in the contiguous United States.
Distance\ comments:: 135 miles (217km) non-stop from Death Valley to Mt. Whitney, CA in temperatures up to 130F (55C).

Where:: FORT COLLINS TO STEAMBOAT SPRINGS
Distance\ Course:: The Wild West Relay is a 195-mile team running relay race in Colorado designed for runners of all abilities. Scheduled around the full moon in August, the third annual running of the Wild West Relay will be Friday, August 11th - Saturday, August 12th, 2006. The relay begins by the foothills of the Rocky Mountains in Fort Collins, Colorado, and finishes in the beautiful ski and summer resort town of Steamboat Springs. Much of this very scenic and remote course runs through National Forests or along dirt roads. The route winds through Roosevelt, Medicine Bow, and Routt National Forests, and through small, mountain and ranching communities.
 
August 09, 2009:: LT100 Mountain Bike Race
Where:: Leadville, CO
Distance:: 100 mile mountain bike race. The race is an out-and-back course; 50 miles out to the highest point on the course, the Columbine Mine Aid Station at 12,600 feet, then turn around and come on back to Leadville. Start/Finish in the heart of Leadville @ 10,200’. 90%+ dirt or double track dirt roads. Steep climbs: serious descents. 7 mile climb to the 50 mile turnaround at 12,600 ft. Approximately 14,000’ elevation gain. Greater than 65% average finish rate under the 12 hour limit. Excellent support stations.

The majority is on forest trails with some mountain roads. Pacers allowed after the 50 mile point. 11 well-supplied aid stations with cut-offs; 5 are medical checks.
 
August 17, 2009:: Muddy Buddy Racing Series Multi-sport racing
Where:: Boulder, CO
Distance:: Each race features a 6-7 mile course and 5 obstacles. At the start of the race, one team member will run and one will ride the bike. At the 1st obstacle, the rider will drop the bike, complete the obstacle, and begin running. The runner will arrive, complete the obstacle, find their bike, and begin riding. Teams will continue leapfrogging each other through the entire course. At the end of the race, racers will crawl through the infamous Mud Pit crossing the finish line together!

Distance/ comments::  In its first year, the GORE-TEX™ TransRockies Run defined a new standard in epic running adventure in North America. The 110 inaugural competitors ran for five days through the Colorado Rockies from the start at Beaver Creek Resort to the finish line in Aspen. In the process the runners, who competed as teams of two for a prize purse of $20,000, overcame snow, high mountain passes and 110 miles of epic running to reach the first-ever TransRockies Run finish line.

August 29-30, 2009:: The North Face Ultra Trail Tour du Mont-Blanc (also referred to as UTMB) 3 Countries - 163 km - + 8900m - 46 hours max.
Where:: Starts from Chamonix (1035m) and runs around Mont-Blanc, France
Distance:: The distance varies between 150 and 160km, with a total elevation gain of around 8500m. The race is run in one leg. Some believe that is the most difficult foot race in Europe. The route follows basically the Tour du Mont Blanc hiking path, that is usually completed in 7 to 9 days by hikers. This is a loop around the Mont Blanc.

Distance::  The 11th Annual Colorado Relay, a 24-hour, 170-mile team relay race, is the only adventure of its kind in Colorado. The course takes athletes of all abilities, across three mountain passes in the beautiful Rocky Mountains, from Idaho Springs to Glenwood Springs, CO. Runners, on teams of 10, each run three segments of the race, with a leg averaging in distance of five miles. An option for elite runners is to create an Ultra team of five runners. Ultra runners are responsible for one leg of the race that averages about 35 miles in length. This event attracts people from all over the nation and is designed for both casual and competitive runners.

Distance:: 30-35 miles.  In VentureQuest 2005 teams navigated across a course consisting of 4 miles of canoeing, 11 miles of trekking, and 12 miles of mountain biking--similar format for 2006. Racers must find a series of checkpoints as they bike along the demanding semi-technical single-track of the Fountainhead Mountain Biking Trail system, navigate both on and off trail along the Bull Run-Occoquan trail system corridor, and paddle the slow moving waters of the Occoquan Reservoir.
